How gifted children are identified depends on the
grade level
All children are identified according to four sets of criteria:

language arts

math
-
science
-
achievement

Teachers also fill out a rating form

Interview by a Gifted Program consultant
Grades K-2

aptitude test

a "product" instead of achievement

interview
-
End of grade 2 achievement test-vocabulary and comprehension, math concepts
and problem solving
Grades K-5

language arts or math or both
Grades 3-12

grades over 4 grading periods
What being identified as gifted gets a child

Special classes are provided for gifted children. When there are not enough
gifted children for a special class, they receive special treatment in
their regular classes.

Certain schools for gifted and high-achieving students
???A high school program for mathematics and science at Clover Hill High
serves selected students from all county high schools.
???A second center-based gifted program for elementary students will
open at Marguerite Christian Elementary this year.
???Center-based gifted programs operate at Manchester Middle and Hening
Elementary and gifted students also are served at their local schools.
